Disney College Program

August 2018 - January 2019 • Orlando, FL

What I liked

I loved meeting other people from all over the country and even the world. This is a very unique experience, which makes it so much more fun! I was in merchandise and worked in the Magic Kingdom every day. This experience was easily one of the best decision I have probably ever made.

What I wish was different

Advice

You have to go in with an open mind. CPs are basically the lowest on the totem pole. You will probably work a lot of late nights and long hours, but you are also getting into the parks as much as you want for free. Have fun, make friends, and enjoy your experience while it lasts!

Merchandise Cast Member

What I liked

I enjoyed the variety of classes the Disney College Program had to offer. I loved my location (I worked on Main Street). The people were wonderful, and overall I had a great experience!

What I wish was different

Housing is optional but strongly encouraged. Disney is changing housing in a couple of years, but the current housing and rules are not so great. You can get termed for the most random things, and housing security does not care as much about your safety as they do about you breaking a minor rule.

Advice

Make the most out of your whole program. It is very helpful to network with people on the Facebook groups before you arrive so you see some familiar faces once you are in Florida. Don't forget to get out of the Disney bubble though. Explore the Orlando area because there is so much to offer.

Lifeguard

January - August 2019 • Orlando, FL

What I liked

I enjoyed being able to work for a wonderful company. Disney provided most of your daily needs, and the pay provided for the rest. I was able to participate in a fun and exciting work place while sharing the Disney magic.

What I wish was different

I wish that I would have done the Fall program. I enjoyed the hustle and bustle of my job, but I wish that I could have been there during the Holiday time.

Advice

If you have debated participating in the Disney College Program, do it. I have been asked about my time at Disney before any of my other job experiences. The overall knowledge you learn while working for the company is huge. I have been able to apply many things to my current life back at UA.

What I liked

I liked the experience of working for a Fortune 500 company and getting to learn the company's core values and how to train their employees. I also liked that my job was important and made a difference in people's lives everyday.

What I wish was different

I wish the leadership was more understanding and not as demanding as they were. I also think that we deserved more breaks than we we're getting because of the demand on our bodies and mental health from this job.

Advice

Advice I would give for anyone with this job is to be comfortable in their skills they learn from training and try to make it fun and different every time you work because it is extremely repetitive. I would also be ready to work outside for all hours and be able to engage in physical activity for very long periods of time.

Sales and Marketing

June 2019 • Orlando, FL

What I liked

Great brand name; great networking opportunities; and many potential openings.

What I wish was different

Work could have more time for strategic projects; recruiting unfortunately is not on a set schedule, but on an "as needed" basis

Advice

Network as much as possible with people and places you'd be interested in. Disney is such a large company it's hard to find something you would enjoy without some guidance from insiders.
