What I liked

The internship was good, but I believe it would have been better if it wasn't during a pandemic. I did like the flexibility because I was a full-time student, and having the convenience of being remote made it a lot easier to work full-time.

What I wish was different

Working in person and more challenging opportunities because I was pursuing a master's degree.

Advice

Try to find opportunities to network outside of your assigned section to build more connections and skills.

Policy Intern

June - November 2020 • Washington, DC

What I liked

I liked that the work I did was meaningful. I was an intern at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and was given substantial responsibility in curating, analyzing, and exporting information for the general public. I was able to work on multiple projects with employees and interns from various departments. Everyone I worked with was friendly, supportive, open to answer questions, and thoughtfully considered suggestions I made.

What I wish was different

I wish it was a paid position. Otherwise, it was great.

Advice

Be kind to your coworkers/supervisors and anyone else you come in contact with. If appropriate, get to know them because the people I worked with were very interesting and helpful once I put myself out there.
