ConocoPhillips

Information Technology Intern

May - July 2021 • Bartlesville, OK

What I liked

They were super able and willing to support me in learning about the technologies in my role, and also encouraged me to learn about the other technologies that the company uses. The advisors, supervisors, and mentors were all very kind and encouraging throughout the internship, and all did their best to help me thrive in my project.

What I wish was different

My only wish was that it wasn't a COVID summer. Some of the trips and activities had to be changed or cancelled for safety.

Advice

Take full advantage of the resources they provide to learn all about the industry and the technologies involved! The teams are more than willing to help you learn all about your interests and beyond.

Facilities Engineering Intern

May - August 2018 • Houston, TX

What I liked

The opportunity to truly engage in projects and design that really applied my chemical engineering knowledge. Your summer project will most likely be challenging and extensive, but you have great mentors/supervisors and subject matter experts that are willing to help you and want you to succeed. I enjoyed the culture at ConocoPhillips and am grateful for the experience.

Advice

Always ask questions! No one can ever judge you for asking questions and seeking help. They know that the interns do not know everything so it is encouraged

Accounting Intern

May - August 2019 • Bartlesville, OK

What I liked

I loved the atmosphere and energy that surrounded me as I went to work each and everyday. I also enjoyed how I got real world experience and got to put my education and knowledge I learned in the classroom to use in the workforce.

What I wish was different

One thing I wish had been different was in my studies if I got to learn more about accounting in the oil and gas industry. All of my college classes prepare students to work in a CPA Firm, and nothing else. While I am learning a lot about accounting, I had no knowledge of accounting in the Oil and Gas industry until after my internship. So regarding the internship, honestly I would not change anything.

Advice

One piece of advice is to give your best effort and show up with an open mind ready to learn. At the end of the internship, I gave a 45 minute presentation and at the beginning of the summer I thought there was no way I could talk in front of people that long. After learning my job and working on the presentation, I could hardly fit everything I wanted to talk about in 45 minutes. This was all due to being engaged in my job and the willingness to learn new material each and every day.

Intern

May - August 2019 • Bartlesville, OK

What I liked

Nice events (like dinners, sports, etc.) were held for the interns throughout the summer.

What I wish was different

Getting valuable experience from this internship was near impossible. Team never really treated me as a part of it. Supervisor/Technical mentor assigned to me was the same individual and he was based in an entirely different state. This made communication with him very difficult and he did not even show up to most of his own scheduled Skype meetings. We spoke maybe a total of 3-4 times throughout the entire summer internship. As a result, I learned very little from my experience with ConocoPhillips.

Advice

Do your research on the positions available during the job fair. Ask specifically about who your supervisor/tech mentor will be. If they are based somewhere else, expect communication with them to be very difficult and you most likely won't learn as much as you would elsewhere.

Office 365 Intern

May - August 2019 • Bartlesville, OK

What I liked

ConocoPhillips is a very people oriented company and it goes to show. As an intern you get access to many employee benefits and incentives. The work you will do is meaningful and will impact the company and your projects will make a difference. You have the opportunity to network with company leadership and hear from speakers all across the company. This company also has a great work/life balance with many different fun and informal events hosted after work.

What I wish was different

Onboarding and getting my project started was a little difficult at first. My team was split in Houston so communication could be difficult at some points. But overall I would do it all over again.

Advice

Pace yourself and don't get engulfed by your work but enjoy the experience. People in this company will not hesitate to help you if you feel buried, no question is stupid here.
