What I liked

My project had meaning, and I understood what role it played in the bigger picture. Work-life balance was great, and Capital One really cares about its employees.

What I wish was different

I wish I were given more background for my project before we jumped straight into working on stories, but my coworkers were helpful when discussing things I didn't know.

Advice

Don't be afraid to try something new, especially if the only thing holding you back is fear of the unknown. Employers love it when students show ambition. Play to win, don't play to not lose.

What I liked

Working from home, Decent hourly pay, Field related internship, and free occasional merchandise from the company.

What I wish was different

Better company management, Better Pay, and more flexible working hours.

Advice

It’s a decent internship for people that are majoring in management (Any concentration), marketing, and finance. It’s not really a suitable internship for people with IS and accounting majors.

The company culture was incredible. I felt heard from day 1 even though I was an intern. I enjoyed my role and had a wonderful supportive team.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship could have been in person but due to COVID I understand. I also wish the internship was a little bit longer.

Advice

Be curious and ask as many questions as possible. Absorb as much knowledge as possible during your short time.

First-Year Intern

What I liked

Capital One has a great culture and I felt this even in a virtual environment. I really loved that this internship focused more on learning and building skills necessary to succeed at the company, and then in the final four weeks we worked on a project in our given team. The people were amazing and helpful, and the mentors and support system I received really gave me the confidence to do well in my internship. We were given much independence in how we used our time and I really loved that.

What I wish was different

I wish we were given more time to work on the project, possibly splitting the learning and working component as 5 weeks each, or incorporating the work from day one as we learn. Regardless, this is something minor in the grand scope of things.

Advice

Really be your true self, because this company allows you to be your true self. Take advantage of the networking opportunities because you never know where they could lead to. Everyone is willing to help, but also don't be extremely reliant on others.

What I liked

I loved the people and the fact that they really seemed to care for the interns. The work life balance is great combined with the pay, and they really ensure that you learn a lot.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had more clarity and definition on my role before starting the job, as I thought it would be more strategy but it ended up being a lot more data-heavy.

Talk to people to see if it is a good fit for you!

What I liked

Got to work on a project that actually had an impact at the company which was really cool. I also go to work pretty independently. The program also put on a lot of cool events.

What I wish was different

I wish there were more variety in the work that could be done during the internship. I also think that some of the speakers were unnecessary.

Advice

Make sure to communicate with your team and check in with your manager regularly to double check your expectations and make sure your performance is up to standards.
