I loved the structure of the program. Even with the remote aspect, they did a great job of making us feel like we were a part of this greater program and company.

Software Engineering Intern

June - August 2018 • McLean, VA

What I liked

Almost everything, it was a great experience! It was very nice of them to give us corporate housing too.

What I wish was different

It would have been nice to have a mentor/buddy directly on my team that could keep an eye on me, but we did have a buddy not on our team.

Advice

Make the most of it, don't just go to work, go home, and do nothing (like I did at times)

Commercial Banking Intern

June - August 2017 • McLean, VA

What I liked

The company culture was incredible. Everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming. They all had no problem taking time out of their day to talk to me about their experiences at Capital One so that I could get exposure to different parts of the bank and figure out what really interests me.

What I wish was different

I don't wish that anything had been different; everything was honestly perfect.

Advice

Be open to learning about every part of the bank. You may think that you know what you are interested in, but Capital One really values people who are all ears and want to learn about the bank as a whole.

Software Engineering Intern

What I liked

The atmosphere was great and everyone was friendly. Campus was beautiful, and food was amazing (and cheap!). I enjoyed the company culture and it was clear Capital One is doing a lot of work to use modern technologies.

What I wish was different

Capital One needs to manage its interns better and provide managers with better training for how to work with interns.

Advice

If you're not given work, ask others for help and if that doesn't work, escalate the issue.

Mainstreet Card Finance Intern

June - August 2019 • McLean, VA

What I liked

Capital One has a fantastic workplace culture and gives associates the autonomy to complete their own work the best way the think possible. There is also a heavy emphasis on the use of technology to provide more advanced insights and deliver a better banking experience for customers.

What I wish was different

I truly don't have a single complaint or thing I would want to change.

Advice

Capital One is a great place for both folks who have prior knowledge in financial services, but is also a wonderful company that embraces people with various backgrounds, including those that do not include finance or traditional business roles. Software Engineer Intern

June - August 2017 • Richmond, VA

What I liked

Probably one of the best summers of my life. Capital One really cares about you and they'll do anything to help you learn as an individual. Very generous pay, beautiful facilities, and most important, amazing people.

What I wish was different

Your experience, work, and project is completely determined by your manager. I know some interns got stuck with not-so-exciting stuff... so I guess I would change the "quality control" of the internship? luckily, I got a really good project with a cool team.

Advice

Take advantage of everything they offer! Attend their hackathons, get AWS Certified, listen to exec, go to SW Conferences! Capital One offers so many things for full timers that interns can participate in.

Data Engineering Intern

June - August 2018 • Richmond, VA

What I liked

The culture is amazing. It is truly a bank embodying a tech company. The compensation is as good as anywhere in Silicon Valley and they pay for your housing. They really try their best to place you based on your preferences.
