What I liked
Through this internship, I got to work as a teacher's assistant in an ABA classroom at a preschool in Brooklyn. Everyone there was extremely nice and welcoming. I got hands-on experience working with and taking care of several children with developmental delays. I was able to learn about their day to day routines in the classroom, participate in recreational activities, and instruct them on personal habits. I was exposed to the PECS system and used it with the children to communicate wants and needs. I also learned more about positive reinforcement and sat in on speech therapy sessions! Overall, this experience was highly rewarding. I grew an attachment to the teachers, therapists, and the children that I worked with. I'm thankful that I got to immerse myself into this community and learn more about Applied Behavior Analysis and Speech Therapy.
