Spring 2023 - Program Management Virtual Intern - CCE Internships+

This internship is offered through the CCE Internships+ Program at Columbia University. This is a CCE Sponsored Internship Program in which interns participate in professional development programming alongside their internship. All students must be currently enrolled. Funding is available for select unpaid and low paid opportunities at not-for-profit organizations. All students must be currently enrolled. Position: Program Management Virtual Intern

Department: Community Department

Time: 4 months

Hours: 12 - 15 hours per week

About: I'RAISE is a small BIPOC led 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in NYC. We provide 100% free educational resources, programs, and services to vulnerable families and children in under-resourced and under-served communities in NYC since 2013 and virtually since 2022. We provide free programs such as tutoring, mentoring, coaching, college and career preparation, parent support, virtual performing arts classes, and much more.

Summary: As a Program management intern you will be working with our full-time Program Manager and a small group of 4 to 5 volunteers and interns. You will assist the Program Manager in managing the programs, do capacity building and assessments to see where our programs are doing good and where we are not and what should be continued and what should not. This internship role allows you the room to collaborate, debate, be creative and strategic, create proposals and roadmaps, and also the room to tackle projects on your own and gain that experiential learning of being a leader and a manager.

This internship can be considered as a project where you are helping a non-profit organization with leadership and program management.

Daily life of a Program Management Intern:
  • You will play a leadership role; Develop and lead team schedules and tasks
  • Communicate with different I'RAISE departments and schedule meetings to discuss the department's needs, i.e., volunteer role needs and having a meeting with HR.
  • Summarize and Communicate the meeting notes, decisions, and what actions need to be taken for the programs to anyone included in the programs; Act as the point of contact between the Program Manager, Tanequa Moore, and the people included in the programs 
  • Oversee multiple projects and follow up with core team members to achieve the target program outcomes, i.e., program outcome could be getting 25 students signed-up in the virtual class
  • Gain outreaching skills; reaching out to schools and organizations to share about I'RAISE programs and services and perhaps building mutual win-win partnership
  • Assist in preparing and developing briefings, proposals, and strategic roadmaps for new programs
  • Serve as the point of contact for departments and questions
  • Other program management tasks as assigned

Qualifications:
  • College students currently pursuing a degree in business administration, management, communications, leadership, non-profit management, or other related fields.

International students (F1) need to secure US employment authorization. When considering applying for a position, you should connect with your Academic Advisor and ISSO to determine the process. Pre-Completion OPT (Optional Practical Training – USCIS processing may take 3-5 months) or CPT (Curricular Practical Training – ISSO will process within 2-3 weeks). You must have either the OPT EAD approval, or the CPT approval to begin your internship on the agreed upon start date.
