Spring 2023 Migrant Crisis Response Intern – CCE Internships+

This internship is offered through the CCE Internships+ Program at Columbia University. This is a CCE Sponsored Internship Program in which interns participate in professional development programming alongside their internship. All students must be currently enrolled. Funding is available for select unpaid and low paid opportunities at not-for-profit organizations. All students must be currently enrolled. International students (F1) need to secure US employment authorization. When considering applying for a position, you should connect with your Academic Advisor and ISSO to determine the process. Pre-Completion OPT (Optional Practical Training – USCIS processing may take 3-5 months) or CPT (Curricular Practical Training – ISSO will process within 2-3 weeks). You must have either the OPT EAD approval, or the CPT approval to begin your internship on the agreed upon start date. This internship allows students to be at the front-line of the New York City Migrant Crisis. Students will directly serve young people affected by the crisis who have been bussed to NYC. Many are refugees, and all have recently arrived in the US after a treacherous journey.
Interns will:
  •  Support students in their English Language Learning
  •  Coordinate resources (such as toiletries, food, and shoes) to meet fundamental needs of migrants
  •  Provide mentorship and socioemotional support for students
  •  Assist Project Rousseau's DOJ Recognized team as they provide immigration legal services
  •  Liaise with stakeholders to identify and meet the needs of families
  • Identify new trends in the migrant crisis to ensure Project Rousseau leadership is up to date with the crisis

Applicants should be ready to work in a fast-paced and changing in environment. They should understand that the internship will be broad in nature to reflect the needs of those served by Project Rousseau. This internship is suited to someone with an interest in immigration law.

Applicants who are bilingual or have professional fluency in Spanish will be prioritized.
