Summer Editorial Intern- CEO Hong Kong

This internship is offered through the Columbia Experience Overseas (CEO) program. To learn more about CEO, go to http://www.careereducation.columbia.edu/findajob/cce-internship/ceo. All CEO 2017 internships will be posted on LionSHARE during the Fall 2016 semester and January 2017 on a rolling basis. To find CEO internship postings, search under the Internships tab on LionSHARE, and use the “Label” function. You may apply to up to eight (8) positions of interest across all CEO locations (Amman, Beijing, Hong Kong, London, Mumbai, Shanghai, Seoul, and Singapore).  Having your resume and cover letter reviewed by a CCE counselor is strongly recommended before applying. There are at least two required components to all CEO position applications and potentially more as requested by each employer as outlined below :

  1. Resume
  2. Transcript (This is your spring course schedule which you should access by logging onto Student Services Online, clicking on “My Schedule” and copying and pasting your Spring 2017 course schedule into a Microsoft Word Document. The schedule should show your full name, your school, your Spring 2017 Courses, and your enrollment status.)
  3. Cover Letter (if required, click Apply Now and check for required documents)
  4. Other materials (ex: Writing Sample, etc. if required, click Apply Now and check for required documents)

Internship Description:

Interns with CNN International’s main Asian bureau in Hong Kong will be assigned primarily to one function in the newsroom but will experience – and contribute to – a plethora of newsroom operations including newsgathering, features and live show production to digital journalism.

Two positions, one focused on newsgathering and one with CNN.com are available for motivated, ambitious undergraduates who are looking to break into news media. The two-month internship will involve hands-on experience from the outset, researching, contributing to and writing stories on a variety of topics.

The training program includes the following aspects:

• Newsgathering orientation and research
• Using CNN.com Web publishing tools in support role on daily basis
• Photo editing, photo gallery production
• CNN.com news production – including index management and adding all relevant media to story pages
• Any other project for CNN.com

The editorial intern roles will allow for a unique journalistic experience for Columbia students, learning from seasoned professionals and giving a hands-on taste for newsgathering and production in a fast-paced, dynamic news environment.

*Qualifications:

• Full-time university student, with interest in journalism

• Excellent skills in research; written and oral communications

• Familiarity with digital storytelling techniques, including photography, video and infographics

• Familiarity with social media, including Twitter, Facebook

• Highly motivated, self-starter and able to work independently

Payment: HKD 32.5/hr, 40 hours per week
