This internship is offered through the Columbia Experience Overseas (CEO) program.  To learn more about CEO, go to http://www.careereducation.columbia.edu/findajob/cce-internship/ceo.  All CEO 2017 internships will be posted on LionSHARE during the Fall 2016 semester and January 2017 on a rolling basis.  To find CEO internship postings, search under the Internships tab on LionSHARE, and use the “Label” function. There are at least two required components to all CEO position applications and potentially more as requested by each employer as outlined below :

The following documents must be submitted through LionSHARE for each position of interest:

  1. Resume
  2. Transcript (This is your spring course schedule which you should access by logging onto Student Services Online, clicking on “My Schedule” and copying and pasting your Spring 2017 course schedule into a Microsoft Word Document. The schedule should show your full name, your school, your Spring 2017 Courses, and your enrollment status.)
  3. Cover Letter (if required, click Apply Now and check for required documents)
  4. Other materials (ex: Writing Sample, etc. if required, click Apply Now and check for required documents)

The CEO program runs June 12- August 4, 2017. Submit your completed applications via LionSHARE by Sunday, February 19, 2017. 

 

Internship Description:

The internship will focus on:

  • Logistics for various cultural and academic events (film screenings, lectures, etc.);

  • Assistance in maintaining and developing Sijal’s internet presence;

  • Promotion of Sijal programming among universities and academic programs abroad; and

  • Other tasks as assigned.

This internship is best suited for individuals interested Arab culture, politics and history, as well as in gaining experience in a growing academic institution. Interns will gain knowledge and skills in academic outreach, event management, and promotion. In order to provide a valuable and well-rounded internship experience, interns will be closely supervised by Sijal staff and have the opportunity to take advantage of Sijal course offerings.

Interns will be provided a small monthly stipend to cover lunch and local travel costs.

Qualifications:

This position is open to students who are interested in outreach and special events within an academic context. Applicants should be well-organized, self-motivated, reliable, and flexible. First-rate time-management skills, attention to detail, strong spoken Arabic and English, solid writing skills in English, computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office, GoogleDocs) and organizational skills are necessary. Experience with event management or outreach is desirable.
