Summer Analyst, Investments and Business Development - CCASSIP

This internship is offered through the Columbia College Alumni-Sponsored Student Internship Program, (CCASSIP). All CCASSIP 2017 positions will be posted on LionSHARE during the Fall 2016/Spring 2017 semester on a rolling basis. Internship Description:

Argo Digital, a division of Argo Group International Holdings, Ltd. (an international underwriter of specialty insurance and reinsurance products in the property and casualty market publicly traded on NASDAQ under the ticker "AGII" with a total capitalization of approximately $2.0 billion and total assets of $6.0 billion) is a digital product development and venture investing arm with a focus on financial technology. The division is responsible for developing products internally and investing in companies externally. The digital team creates and validates customer-first experiences to optimize the core business while exploring disruptive opportunities that can scale (www.argo-digital.com).

Argo Digital seeks an exceptional college sophomore or junior (expected graduation in 2018 or 2019) for a unique summer analyst role at the intersection of corporate finance, technology, and venture capital investing.

The analyst will lead efforts to analyze both internal and external investment opportunities by performing market research and financial analysis, and be responsible for working directly with senior leadership to develop research materials for each opportunity.

The analyst will work closely under the Head of Investments and Business Development (a Columbia College alumnus) to understand business fundamentals, conduct market and financial due diligence, and draft investment summaries to be presented to senior management.

Responsibilities

• Develop keen understanding of the financial technology industry by performing market research and industry analysis
• Regularly meet with product leaders to cultivate relationships and develop our internal products with research and analysis materials
• Conduct business, financial, and market due diligence to evaluate investment ideas
• Identify and pre-qualify investment opportunities to be presented to investment team
• Work closely with senior investment professionals to support investment execution, including drafting investment summaries and participating in meetings with key stakeholders
• Prepare daily news runs in the insurance technology space
Computer science degree preferred

Qualifications

Candidates should possess the following:
1. Strong work ethic and interpersonal skills
2. Strong academic history with a minimum GPA of 3.7
3. Strong intellectual curiosity
4. Be a sophomore entering his or her junior year or a junior entering his or her senior year
