Summer Intern- CEO Singapore

This internship is offered through the Columbia Experience Overseas (CEO) program. To learn more about CEO, go to http://www.careereducation.columbia.edu/findajob/cce-internship/ceo. All CEO 2017 internships will be posted on LionSHARE during the Fall 2016 semester and January 2017 on a rolling basis. To find CEO internship postings, search under the Internships tab on LionSHARE, and use the “Label” function. You may apply to up to eight (8) positions of interest across all CEO locations (Amman, Beijing, Hong Kong, London, Mumbai, Shanghai, Seoul, and Singapore).  Having your resume and cover letter reviewed by a CCE counselor is strongly recommended before applying. There are at least two required components to all CEO position applications and potentially more as requested by each employer as outlined below :

The following documents must be submitted through LionSHARE for each position of interest:

  1. Resume
  2. Transcript (This is your spring course schedule which you should access by logging onto Student Services Online, clicking on “My Schedule” and copying and pasting your Spring 2017 course schedule into a Microsoft Word Document. The schedule should show your full name, your school, your Spring 2017 Courses, and your enrollment status.)
  3. Cover Letter (if required, click Apply Now and check for required documents)
  4. Other materials (ex: Writing Sample, etc. if required, click Apply Now and check for required documents)

The CEO program runs June 12- August 4, 2017. Submit your completed applications via LionSHARE by Sunday, February 12, 2017.

Internship Description:
The research based landscape architectural design firm and fine arts sculpture studio of Colin K. Okashimo and Associates (www.ckoa.com.sg and www.colinokashimo.com) is based in Singapore with a presence in London and New York.

Led by Dr Colin K Okashimo, winner of the Singapore President’s Designer of the Year 2105 Award (https://www.designsingapore.org/PDA_PUBLIC/gallery.aspx?sid=1104) we are a small firm of 15 passionate designers, researchers, master planners and landscape architects focused on award winning solutions for boutique resorts, high end residential developments, private residences, spas and retreats throughout Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Japan, China, Mauritius, Maldives, Seychelles, Italy and Singapore.

We seek interns for the summer of 2017 from various related fields of architecture, landscape, graphic design and fine arts. The candidate will have an interest and commitment to academic research to join the team in the pursuit of our vision to create unique, one-of-a-kind memorable and meaningful places of contemplation, meditation and reflection.

Interns should have a keen interest in physical model construction, a strong desire to learn and expand their skills plus have a compelling reason to visit Singapore and South East Asia. Asian language skill is a strong asset and will be considered favorably.

The ideal candidate should be pursuing a major in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Graphics or Fine Arts.
The selected candidate will be expected to work across a range of disciplines under the guidance of the studio directors.


Key Responsibilities

• Physical, scaled model making using various materials
• Design and hand drawing work - plan, section, elevation through various stages of the design process
• Design support of model layouts for presentations
• Co-ordination of printing, models and maquettes for presentations
• Physical model assembly and technical packing for transportation for presentations
• Co-ordination with manufacturers of architectural products to collate samples
• Academic research for projects in the studio
• Research synthesis and report preparation
• Preparation and support of presentation and marketing materials
• Investigation of social media for the studio; updates and uploads
• Ability to edit and or create videos using project photographs and provided footage.

Requirements

• Major in architecture or graphic design: preferably a Rising Sophomore or Junior in 2017
• Competent hand sketching ability
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Sketch-up, Adobe Photoshop, PowerPoint, Word and Excel
• Proficiency in Illustrator and InDesign
• Laser cutting and 3D printing experience preferred
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Willingness to travel if necessary
• Interest in meditation

If project examples are from group work submissions, please honestly and accurately describe your role and deliverable. A Skype interview and remote CAD or model design building test will be required. A face to face interview for selected candidates will occur for short listed interns.

Student Payment: SGD 800/Month
