Summer 2020 Business Continuity Intern - Navab Fellowship Program

Navab Fellowship PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
This internship is offered through the Navab Fellowship Program. This is a CCE Sponsored Internship Program in which interns participate in professional development programming alongside the internship which is sourced by a Columbia College alumnus. Fellowship awards are given to students in lawful unpaid and low-paid opportunities for travel and living expenses. Additionally, eligible participants on financial aid have their summer earnings expectation waived. Programming includes attending a Pre-Program Training, mid-semester check-in with a career counselor, end-of-program Reflection Session as well as completion of an individual development plan and project. These elements will support success in the internship experience itself, help you learn more about the related industry or type of work, as well as help you prepare for and plan next steps after the experience. Navab Fellowship Program internship dates vary by position but typically take place over the course of May - August, 2020. Navab Fellowship Program positions and the program are open to CC students only. All Navab Fellowship Program Summer 2020 positions will be posted on LionSHARE during December 2019/Spring 2020 semester on a rolling basis. To find Navab Fellowship Program internship postings, search under the Internships tab on LionSHARE, and use the “Label” function. There is no application limit for Navab Fellowship Program positions.

You must be in good academic and judicial standing with Columbia University to be eligible to participate in the program. By submitting an application, you authorize the Center for Career Education to conduct academic and disciplinary checks to confirm program eligibility. Certain University policy violations may disqualify you from consideration for the program.

·        International students (F1) need to secure US employment authorization. When considering applying for a position, you should connect with your Academic Advisor and ISSO to determine the process. Pre-Completion OPT (Optional Practical Training – USCIS processing may take 3-5 months) or CPT (Curricular Practical Training – ISSO will process within 2-3 weeks). You must have either the OPT EAD approval, or the CPT approval to begin your internship on the agreed upon start date. Visit the Columbia International Students & Scholars Office employment section to learn more. *This is a paid position – offering minimum wage. Additionally, a Fellowship award will be given to this intern to cover the cost of your Columbia student contribution should you have one. Part-time positions will receive pro-rated coverage for student contribution.

INTERNSHIP Description: 
The Business Continuity Office (BCO) leads, implements, and manages Comcast’s enterprise-wide Business Continuity (BC) Program. The BCO is responsible for developing BC policies, deliverables, and tools to establish continuity strategies that reduce the occurrence - or minimize the impact - of a disaster or significant disruption. To assess Comcast’s preparedness, the BCO analyzes business risks associated with the loss of people, locations, operations, and technologies.
The Business Continuity Intern will play a supporting role in managing the Business Continuity Management System (BCMS) activities of the BCO (risk assessments, management review, compliance, improvement, and documentation of auditable evidence). This position will report directly into the Sr. Manager of the BCO.

Primary Responsibilities

- Understand the business, legal, and regulatory requirements of Comcast related to continuity of operations as well as implementing, maintaining, and documenting procedures
- Support the risk assessment process, such as Business Impact Analysis (BIA), with internal and external teams
- Understand and document disaster recovery (DR) techniques employed in support of technologies
- Register risks identified in assessments, and support reporting for continuity strategy determination by Senior Leadership Teams
- Ensure all relevant teams, technologies, and locations have continuity plans commensurate with their criticality level
- Support the facilitation of documenting procedures on how Comcast employees will communicate, manage, respond, and recover from disruptive incidents impacting operations
- Support Crisis Management events that may arise, identifying assets at risk and their impact, and distributing relevant continuity planning
- Develop exercise scenarios and coordinate with stakeholders to test components of end-to-end resiliency for Comcast operations, and products/services
- Support the program management of a business continuity management application implementation
- Perform data analyses and cleanup for the business continuity management application implementation
- Gather auditable BC information that will be reviewed by necessary parties
Education and Experience Requirements
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree from a United States-based college or university
- Available to work 40 hours per week for 8-10 weeks starting May 18th, 2020
- Preferred Majors: Security and Risk Analysis, Cybersecurity, Risk Management, Accounting, Finance, Information Science
- Ability to understand both business process and computing systems
- Proficient in use of Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
- Familiarity with risk assessment methodologies (e.g., NIST RMF, ISO 27005, OCTAVE Allegro) a plus
- Ability to work in a complex, dynamic and fast-paced environment
- Strong interest in the telecommunications, cable, and media industries
- Excellent written and oral communications and presentation skills
- Strong planning and organization skills with proven ability to assist teams and work with virtual teams
