Summer 2020 Federal Government Affairs Legislative Intern - Navab Fellowship Program

Navab Fellowship PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

This internship is offered through the Navab Fellowship Program. This is a CCE Sponsored Internship Program in which interns participate in professional development programming alongside the internship which is sourced by a Columbia College alumnus. Fellowship awards are given to students in lawful unpaid and low-paid opportunities for travel and living expenses. Additionally, eligible participants on financial aid have their summer earnings expectation waived. Programming includes attending a Pre-Program Training, mid-semester check-in with a career counselor, end-of-program Reflection Session as well as completion of an individual development plan and project. These elements will support success in the internship experience itself, help you learn more about the related industry or type of work, as well as help you prepare for and plan next steps after the experience. Navab Fellowship Program internship dates vary by position but typically take place over the course of May - August, 2020. Navab Fellowship Program positions and the program are open to CC students only. All Navab Fellowship Program Summer 2020 positions will be posted on LionSHARE during December 2019/Spring 2020 semester on a rolling basis. To find Navab Fellowship Program internship postings, search under the Internships tab on LionSHARE, and use the “Label” function. There is no application limit for Navab Fellowship Program positions.

You must be in good academic and judicial standing with Columbia University to be eligible to participate in the program. By submitting an application, you authorize the Center for Career Education to conduct academic and disciplinary checks to confirm program eligibility. Certain University policy violations may disqualify you from consideration for the program.

·        International students (F1) need to secure US employment authorization. When considering applying for a position, you should connect with your Academic Advisor and ISSO to determine the process. Pre-Completion OPT (Optional Practical Training – USCIS processing may take 3-5 months) or CPT (Curricular Practical Training – ISSO will process within 2-3 weeks). You must have either the OPT EAD approval, or the CPT approval to begin your internship on the agreed upon start date. Visit the Columbia International Students & Scholars Office employment section to learn more. Students should keep abreast of authorization processing times. 

POSITION Description: 
*This is a paid position – offering minimum wage. Additionally, a Fellowship award will be given to this intern to cover the cost of your Columbia student contribution should you have one. Part-time positions will receive pro-rated coverage for student contribution.

Program Overview:
The Comcast Center Internship Program (CCIP) is an internship program based at our headquarters in Philadelphia, PA The program is designed to identify high-caliber talent to build our organization with the best and the brightest students who come from a variety of sourcing channels, including on-campus career fairs, partner organizations, and direct applications. In this role you will immerse yourself into the Comcast culture, working side by side with innovative and talented Comcasters. You will cultivate meaningful relationships and develop strong interpersonal and business skills that will set you apart from your peers. As an intern in the program, you would expect to work a 30-40 hour/week schedule.
Additionally, your experience will include:
- Engagement: Working on creative, innovative, and thought-provoking projects within various business units at Comcast during your cooperative experience - Exposure: An inside look into the day-to-day operations of an organization at the cutting edge of media and technology. - Professional development: You will be exposed to a variety of professional development topics facilitated through our partners at Comcast University and senior leaders within the organization. These sessions are inclusive of speaker series, skill-building workshops, and networking opportunities. - Mentorship: Mentoring from fellow colleagues through the Empowering Future Leaders Program (EFLP) to help you navigate your experience, provide coaching, and expand your professional network. - Fun: Continuously develop relationships with fellow interns through social activities, community building, and networking.
Role Overview

Comcast Corporation's Washington, DC office is looking for a Summer 2017 intern to support the Federal Government Affairs group. This intern will have the opportunity to help plan and attend Congressional and other third-party events and prepare briefing materials for the Federal Government Affairs leadership team.

Intern will:

- Watch Congressional hearings and take notes for circulation to Comcast Legislative Affairs team. - Work with members of the Legislative Affairs teams on various ad-hoc projects. - Conduct guided legislative and Congressional research on topics of interest to Comcast NBCUniversal. - Attend internal Comcast meetings and take notes for staff. - Support the Legislative Affairs team in planning and execution of Comcast corporate events. - Process consultant invoices and other administrative assignments as needed.

Preferred Qualifications/Requirements

- Currently enrolled and pursuing a Bachelor’s degree from a United States-based college or university with the Grad year of 2019 or 2020 (Sophomores and Juniors). - Major: Political Science, Business Administration, Communications, Marketing and Media - Minimum GPA: 3.0 - Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Access, Adobe Photoshop - Strong interest in government affairs/regulatory affairs. - Strong research skills. - Experience with Microsoft Excel, required - Proficiency in Adobe InDesign is a plus, but not required - Must have excellent time management and verbal/written communication skills - Must have great attention to detail and organizational skills - Must have ability to interface with all levels of management - Must be able to work evenings (when necessary) - Willingness to learn and work in a fast-paced environment. - Strong interest in the telecommunications, cable and media industries. - Ability to work on a team. - Writing samples may be required - Authorized to work in the United States of America. - Comcast is an Affirmative Action/EEO employer M/F/D/V

The schedule should show your full name, your school, your Spring 2020 Courses, and your enrollment status.)
  3. Cover Letter (if required - click ‘Apply Now’ and check for required documents)
