Summer 2019 Data Scientist- CEO Amman

CEO Program Description:
This internship is offered through the Columbia Experience Overseas (CEO) program. To learn more about CEO, go to http://www.careereducation.columbia.edu/findajob/cce-internship/ceo. All CEO 2019 internships will be posted on LionSHARE during the Fall 2018 semester and January 2019 on a rolling basis. To find CEO internship postings, search under the Internships tab on LionSHARE, and use the “Label” function. Newton is an 20-year old insurer that has made a significant commitment to innovation and digital disruption through the use of big data and machine learning investments at the company. We have made a commitment to Clarity, Continuity and Community in our products and services, by making the insurance products simpler, user-friendly though our apps, and community-minded by providing ancillary support services to our members.

Overview of Role and Responsibility
Newton has worked with previous interns in utilizing data analysis tools to support the operations of the company 
a) in better analyzing Risk, 
b) identifying Fraud, and 
c) increasing revenue through online-digital marketing efforts through better Segmentation. 

Internship is divided into weekly mini-projects within a specific department which could include: 
a) Health Insurance Department, 
b) Property and Cargo Insurance Department, 
c) Marketing department

Past projects have included - Developing a web-scraper to identify articles related to natural disasters affecting the Property Insurance department; analyzing health insurance claims trends to extract major variances from average trends to identify potential fraud; Developing a targeted marketing campaign to cross-sell retail products to individuals identified through Facebook marketing campaign.

Projects are conducted in teams, and always end with a presentation to the executive in the department to discuss insights, and ideas.

Desired Skills:
- Exposure to Big Data Analytics, Statistics, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence
- Experience in at least one Data Science tools including R, Python and Advanced Excel 
- Exposure to Data Visualization tools like Power BI, Tableau 
- Presentation skills - develop insights from analysis to be presented to Executive team in PowerPoint

Required Components:
There are at least two required components to all CEO position applications and potentially more as requested by each employer as outlined below:

The schedule should show your full name, your school, your Spring 2019 Courses, and your enrollment status.)
  3. Cover Letter (if required - click ‘Apply Now’ and check for required documents)
  4. Other materials (ex: Writing Sample, etc. if required - click ‘Apply Now’ and check for required documents)
The CEO program runs Amman: June 9 – August 1, 2019. Students must participate for the entire duration of the program.  Submit your completed applications via LionSHARE by Sunday, February 10, 2019.
