Summer Curatorial Intern - CCASSIP

This internship is offered through the Columbia College Alumni-Sponsored Student Internship Program, (CCASSIP). CCASSIP Positions and the program are open to CC students only. All CCASSIP 2018 positions will be posted on LionSHARE during the Fall 2017/Spring 2018 semester on a rolling basis. To find CCASSIP internship postings, search under the Internships tab on LionSHARE, and use the “Label” function. There is no application limit for CCASSIP positions. You must be in good academic and judicial standing with Columbia University to be eligible to participate in the program. By submitting an application, I authorize the Center for Career Education to conduct academic and disciplinary checks to confirm program eligibility.

Internship Description:

As the leader in its field, Public Art Fund brings dynamic contemporary art to a broad audience in New York City and beyond by mounting ambitious free exhibitions of international scope and impact that offer the public powerful experiences with art and the urban environment.

Public Art Fund seeks a student intern to assist with curatorial research and the planning and development of current and upcoming programs during the summer of 2018 – the peak portion of Public Art Fund’s exciting 2018 schedule. During this time, the student will have the opportunity to work closely with the curatorial team at the Public Art Fund, under the direct mentorship of Daniel S. Palmer, Public Art Fund’s Associate Curator. The student’s efforts will be focused on working directly with world-renowned artists on the planning and development for the 2018 exhibition season, to produce many of the most significant public artworks in New York City. The student will also help collaborate on a variety of new projects and events for Public Art Fund’s future schedule.

The right match for this position will be a highly motivated individual with strong written and oral communication skills, a rigorous approach to curatorial research, and a proven knowledge of contemporary art. The ability to manage time efficiently, handle several projects simultaneously, and have a sense of humor is also important.

The curatorial intern will receive a generous monthly stipend in exchange for her/his contribution to Public Art Fund. School credit can also be arranged as appropriate. Students should be able to commit to four (4) full days per week from early June through mid-August (exact dates to be determined during interview process).

Requirements:
• Must be a current undergraduate student at Columbia College (rising seniors preferred)
• Knowledge of contemporary art and its concepts
• Skilled in compiling research, creating bibliographies, and drafting short texts
• Strong oral, written, organizational, and inter-personal communications skills
• Ability to manage time efficiently
• Professional working manner
• Ability to work independently on multiple projects in a shared office context
• Computer proficiency is a must, particularly experience with Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe Photoshop, Google SketchUp
• Experience working in a museum or gallery context
• Knowledge of book production or editorial skills are a plus

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Assisting with the development of upcoming programs and exhibitions
• Developing bibliographies, image files, and general research on artists
• Writing, editing, and proofing short texts and presentations
• Liaising with artists and institutions
• Assisting at events, including talks and openings
