Spring Government & Community Engagement Intern - CAE

This internship is offered through the Columbia Arts Experience (CAE). This is a CCE Sponsored Internship Program in which interns participate in professional development programming alongside their internship. This includes attending a Pre-program training, Mid-semester dinner, and end-of-program Reflection session as well as completion of a reflection project. These elements will support success in the internship experience itself, help students learn more about the related industry or type of work, as well as help students prepare for and plan next steps after the experience.  Internship Description:

As the advocacy arm of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (LCPA), the Department of Government and Community Engagement seeks to promote Lincoln Center’s educational and community engagement initiatives and goals through continued advocacy and relationship-building in the community and in the halls of City, state, and federal government.

Government and Community Engagement Intern

The Government and Community Engagement Department seeks an Intern to support the Director and Coordinator of Government and Community Engagement. Duties to include:
• Working with the Government and Community Engagement team to develop advocacy materials
• Assisting with the preparation of briefing materials for senior executives for their meetings with senior government officials
• Work with the Government and Community Engagement team to highlight Government Relations and Community Engagement activities on social media channels
• Phone and email correspondence with local and state government offices and agencies, with regular updating of correspondence records
• Drafting and proofreading external communications
• Data collection for, and assistance with preparing, regulatory reports and grant applications
• Attend and report on external events relating to Lincoln Center’s government and community engagement objectives, such as hearings, community events, among others
• Other duties as assigned by the Director and Coordinator of Government and Community Engagement

Required Qualifications
• Excellent verbal, face-to-face, written communication skills, and research skills and comfort interacting in a pleasant, professional manner
• Proofreading and editing skills
• Proficiency with MS Excel and MS word
• Ability to work independently
• Good phone etiquette and professional presentation
• Attentive to detail

The ideal candidate might have these preferred skills:

• Enthusiastic, energetic, and flexible, with a great sense of humor
• Interest in or knowledge of the performing arts

Application Instructions:

This position is part of the CAE program. All 2018 spring internships will be posted on LionSHARE during the Fall 2017 semester on a rolling basis beginning in late September. (Search for the label "CAE" under the “Labels” field in LionShare to view all program positions.) You may apply to up to three (3) positions of interest in the CAE program. You must be in good academic and judicial standing with Columbia University to be eligible to participate in the program.

There are at least two required components to all CAE position applications and potentially more as requested by each employer. The following documents must be submitted through LionSHARE for each position of interest:

  1. Resume
  2. Transcript (This is your Fall 2017 course schedule which you should access by logging onto Student Services Online, clicking on “My Schedule” and copying and pasting your Fall 2017 course schedule into a Microsoft Word Document. The schedule should show your full name, your school, your Fall 2017 Courses, and your enrollment status.)
  3. Cover Letter (if required - click Apply Now and check for required documents)
  4. Other materials (ex: Writing Sample, etc. if required - click Apply Now and check for required documents)

CAE Internships run from January 22nd – April 13th. Submit your completed applications via LionSHARE by Sunday, October 29, 2017.
