Spring Business Development Intern (Mission-Driven Fashion Startup)- SIP

Job Description:

This internship is offered through the Startup Internship Program (SIP). This is a CCE Sponsored Internship Program in which interns participate in professional development programming alongside their internship. This includes attending a Pre-program training, Mid-semester dinner, and end-of-program Reflection session as well as completion of a reflection project. These elements will support success in the internship experience itself, help students learn more about the related industry or type of work, as well as help students prepare for and plan next steps after the experience. Application Instructions:

This position is part of the SIP program. All 2018 spring internships will be posted on LionSHARE during the Fall 2017 semester on a rolling basis beginning in late September. (Search for the label "SIP" under the “Labels” field in LionShare to view all program positions.) You may apply to up to three (3) positions of interest in the SIP program. You must be in good academic and judicial standing with Columbia University to be eligible to participate in the program.

There are at least two required components to all SIP position applications and potentially more as requested by each employer. The following documents must be submitted through LionSHARE for each position of interest:

  1. Resume
  2. Transcript (This is your Fall 2017 course schedule which you should access by logging onto Student Services Online, clicking on “My Schedule” and copying and pasting your Fall 2017 course schedule into a Microsoft Word Document. The schedule should show your full name, your school, your Fall 2017 Courses, and your enrollment status.)
  3. Cover Letter (if required - click Apply Now and check for required documents)
  4. Other materials (ex: Writing Sample, etc. if required - click Apply Now and check for required documents)

SIP Internships run from January 22nd – April 13th. Submit your completed applications via LionSHARE by Sunday, October 29, 2017.


Position Summary

We are looking for a go-getter Business Development Intern with proven experience thinking outside the box to solve business problems. The ideal candidate is very interested in the fashion/retail industry and passionate about making a positive impact on the world.


Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Brand Manager and CEO, the Business Development Intern will engage in initiatives such as:

-Retail Incubators + Accelerators Strategy: The intern will be tasked with creating a target list of top accelerators, incubators VC/PE firms for early-stage consumer companies in NYC, researching previous investment recipients, and assisting the CEO and Graphic Designer in creating a pitch deck.

-Brand Collaboration Development: The intern will research potential retail collaboration partners for joint-product development or marketing campaigns. The intern will plan an outreach strategy, assist in pitch creation, and help prep the CEO for outreach calls and planning meetings.

-Charity Partner Engagement Strategy: The intern will be asked to research our incredible national charity partners (RAINN, NAMI, Trevor Project, CancerCare) and recommend strategies for joint promotion campaigns to increase partner engagement and leverage partner platforms for greater AWE visibility. The intern will also be asked to research and recommend strategies for engagement with local NYC up-and-coming non-profits/cause-oriented organizations, including event proposals (see our most recent event “Sad Girls Club Poetry Slam” on our Instagram account for an example).

-Retail Opportunity Development: The intern will help create a retail partner outreach strategy to expand AWE into additional ecommerce and brick-and-mortar retail channels.


Preferred Qualifications

-Previous internship experience in business development, consumer insights/research, early-stage consumer company development, or advertising required;
-Demonstrable experience creating business pitch decks or corporate-level presentation
-Currently enrolled as a 3rd or 4th year undergraduate;
-Is professional and pleasant to work with and approaches all tasks with enthusiasm. Views each task as an opportunity to learn and grow.
-Has worked with charities, non-profits, and/or philanthropies and demonstrates passion for a particular social cause.
