Spring Programs Intern - KCCAP@CU

Job Description: This internship is offered through the Kenneth Cole Community Action Program @ Columbia University. This is a CCE Sponsored Internship Program in which interns participate in professional development programming alongside their internship. This includes attending a Pre-program training, Mid-semester dinner, and end-of-program Reflection session as well as completion of a reflection project. These elements will support success in the internship experience itself, help students learn more about the related industry or type of work, as well as help students prepare for and plan next steps after the experience. Positions in this program offer a $1,000 stipend for the spring semester internship. The Laundromat Project’s (The LP) program interns will support the planning and implementation of our programs, which include multi-pronged artist development and community arts education programs. This internship is a great opportunity for individuals and/or students interested in arts and nonprofit management. Program interns support, from initial research to execution, socially relevant and socially engaged arts programming while learning how a nonprofit community-based arts organization works. Based on the organization’s capacity and needs, and the candidate’s skills and background, a program intern would be assigned to support with the following at at our Harlem office. Initial research to producing and executing LP programming related to Create Change or our Community Arts Education work. Preparing art materials for community art workshops, assisting and developing promotional strategies of LP programming. Supporting the program team with the evaluation of the organization’s programs, conducting research on socially-engaged art making, social justice-related art projects, and related topics. Providing administrative support in preparation of special events, including artist talks, artist open studios, art festivals, and community art workshops. Documentation and developing original content for The LP’s blog and social media accounts. Supporting community asset mapping and community histories initiatives. Conducting research on socially-engaged art making, social justice-related art projects. Assisting with the promotion of application process for The LP’s Create Change Fellowship and Residency opportunities. Support The LP’s Create Change Resident/Commissions Artists to implement their projects throughout the summer in one of three New York City neighborhoods. This may include: Assisting with the construction, installation, and presentation of public art projects, documentation and connecting with neighbors.

Qualified candidates will meet the minimum requirements: Excellent written, verbal communication and research skills, and proofreading experience Proactive ability to juggle multiple tasks, manage priorities and time well, and collaborate with others as well as independently on projects Dependable and punctual A sense of humor and a sense of fun Experience working in contemporary art, arts education, community organizing, public art, social practice, social justice sectors, and/or related settings Proficiency in Google Apps, Microsoft Office suite Ability to lift at least 15lbs Multilingual – especially Spanish, French, or Wolof Additional preferred, but not required skills and qualities: Experience with photography, film, and/or media production Proficient in Adobe CS5 software: InDesign, Illustrator, & Photoshop Basic graphic design experience with printed materials and simple digital graphics Details and Perks a fun learning environment flexible hours portfolio building opportunity access to a network of arts, nonprofit, social justice, and marketing & communications professionals and leaders resources, support, and dedication from our staff to your professional development

All 2018 spring internships will be posted on LionSHARE during the Fall 2017 semester on a rolling basis beginning in late September.
