Spring Community Mobilization – Education Fellow - KCCAP@CU

Job Description:

This internship is offered through the Kenneth Cole Community Action Program @ Columbia University. This is a CCE Sponsored Internship Program in which interns participate in professional development programming alongside their internship. This includes attending a Pre-program training, Mid-semester dinner, and end-of-program Reflection session as well as completion of a reflection project. These elements will support success in the internship experience itself, help students learn more about the related industry or type of work, as well as help students prepare for and plan next steps after the experience. Positions in this program offer a $1,000 stipend for the spring semester internship. NLIRH seeks a committed individual who is passionate about organizing and education to assist in the design and implementation of the NLIRH leadership and development program. The Education Fellow will assist in the development of educational materials, workshops and trainings to facilitate the ongoing organizing and leadership development efforts of Latina activists throughout the country. Candidates must have experience in community/political organizing, and a commitment to reproductive health and rights and/or social justice issues.

This position will directly report to the Associate Director of Education.

 

Position Location: New York, NY

Responsibilities include:

•           Research best practices for adult learning (including teenagers) to assist in the creation of curricular resources that build leadership and organizing capacity of local activists.

•           Assist in the creation of bilingual presentations, power points and activities in collaboration with the Associate Director of Education.

•           Work closely with the Community Mobilization team on other Community Mobilization efforts, including trainings and mobilizations.

 

Main Qualifications:

•           The ideal candidate will have experience in content creation or facilitation for adult and/or teen learners.

•           Prior community organizing experience is preferred.

•           Knowledge and commitment to reproductive health and rights and/or social justice issues including LGBTQ liberation and immigrant women’s rights.

•           Fluency in written and spoken Spanish is required.

•           Strong communication skills, including some comfort with public speaking.

•           Ability to multi-task with attention to detail.

•           Ability to work independently, think critically and creatively, and take initiative.

•           Ability to work well with a team and take direction and feedback.

•           Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, and social media/new media technologies.

This position is part of the Kenneth Cole Community Action Program @ Columbia University. All 2018 spring internships will be posted on LionSHARE during the Fall 2017 semester on a rolling basis beginning in late September. (Search for the label "KCCAP@CU" under the “Labels” field in LionShare to view all program positions.) You may apply to up to three (3) positions of interest in the Kenneth Cole Community Action Program @ Columbia University. You must be in good academic and judicial standing with Columbia University to be eligible to participate in the program.

There are at least two required components to all Kenneth Cole Community Action Program @ Columbia University position applications and potentially more as requested by each employer. The following documents must be submitted through LionSHARE for each position of interest:
