Project Rousseau is a New York based non-profit organization working with some of the most disadvantaged high school students in the USA. Founded in 2011 and currently working with 1500 students across the states our mission is to simultaneously improve access to education and to raise academic outcomes amongst the country’s most underserved and high potential youth.

We achieve this by delivering mentoring, academic support, community service programs and international cultural exchanges for the young people referred to us. We take a holistic approach to our students' education and development because we believe that academic problems rarely have academic causes. All of our students are living well below the poverty line. A growing portion of our student body is comprised of homeless, foster care and Native American Reservation students. For more details about the organization please visit our website: www.projectrousseau.org.

The exact nature of the role will be tailored to suit the intern's skills and interests with both student facing and administrative tasks available. Previous interns have been involved in the following areas and we hope that this year's Kenneth Cole intern would also be involved in similar projects:

- Citizenship Support- working with students who are in the process of completing their citizenship applications.
- Juvenile Justice – supporting students who have been in the juvenile justice system and their transition back to high school.
- High Need Individuals – individual support to students with higher needs either academically or in their personal lives.
 - Foundation Grant Writing – taking a leading role in writing grant applications for Project Rousseau.
- Corporate Outreach and Engagement – establishing corporate outreach partnerships and securing funding through this avenue.
- Friends of Project Rousseau – planning events for and engaging our young professionals’ network
- Press and Public Relations – improving Project Rousseau’s image and/or marketing approach.

We are looking for interns who are passionate about working with some of the most under-served high school students in the USA, some of our students’ situations are also very complex and would require a mature and compassionate outlook from the interns. The interns would, of course, be given plenty of support in dealing with students. An intern who has great initiative and willingness to involve themselves fully in a range of tasks would be well-suited to this role.
