Spring Public Art Program Intern - CAE

This internship is offered through the Columbia Arts Experience (CAE). This is a CCE Sponsored Internship Program in which interns participate in professional development programming alongside their internship. This includes attending a Pre-program training, Mid-semester dinner, and end-of-program Reflection session as well as completion of a reflection project. These elements will support success in the internship experience itself, help students learn more about the related industry or type of work, as well as help students prepare for and plan next steps after the experience. Internship Description:
The Freshkills Park Development Team is looking for a Public Art Program Intern to support foundational elements of the growing art program for a six-month term in order to integrate artists in park development over the next 25 years. The Public Art Program Intern will have a hands-on role in planning and implementation: organizing an arts advisory committee, creating a new gallery space, developing an artist registry; while soliciting proposals, assisting with production, and collaborating with partners. Mentorship and supervision will be led by Mariel Villere, curator of the art program.
Responsibilities:
• Support art program development with original research on practitioners and topics spanning urban studies, art, architecture, design and ecology
• Research and compile dossiers on visual artists, dancers, writers, scholars, musicians, architects, curators, collectives, institutes, residency programs, advocates and educators
• Attend site visits for art project and program development
• Attend team meetings, arts working group meetings, interagency meetings and planning sessions
• Contribute to the research and creation of original content across social media including a blog, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram
• Complete general administrative work as needed

Requirements:
• Interest in and knowledge of contemporary art, environmental art and social practice artists
• Strong writing and communication skills; editorial experience
• Excellent organizational skills
• Graphic design skills, proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite preferred
• Knowledgeable and active on social media platforms
• Familiarity and ease with A/V (particularly photography and film) and digital media preferred
• An ability to work independently as well as flexibly in a team environment

This position is part of the CAE program. All 2018 spring internships will be posted on LionSHARE during the Fall 2017 semester on a rolling basis beginning in late September. (Search for the label "CAE" under the “Labels” field in LionShare to view all program positions.) You may apply to up to three (3) positions of interest in the CAE program. You must be in good academic and judicial standing with Columbia University to be eligible to participate in the program.

There are at least two required components to all CAE position applications and potentially more as requested by each employer. The following documents must be submitted through LionSHARE for each position of interest:

  1. Resume
  2. Transcript (This is your Fall 2017 course schedule which you should access by logging onto Student Services Online, clicking on “My Schedule” and copying and pasting your Fall 2017 course schedule into a Microsoft Word Document. The schedule should show your full name, your school, your Fall 2017 Courses, and your enrollment status.)
  3. Cover Letter (if required - click Apply Now and check for required documents)
  4. Other materials (ex: Writing Sample, etc. if required - click Apply Now and check for required documents)

CAE Internships run from January 22nd – April 13th. Submit your completed applications via LionSHARE by Sunday, October 29, 2017.
