JPMorganChase

Corporate Analyst

June - August 2019 • Newark, DE

What I liked

This was a wonderful internship. It was through JPMorgan Chase & Co Corporate Analyst Development Program, which offered a structured path throughout the summer in the form of networking events, recruiter check-ins, mentorship, in addition to plenty of communication and ways to be involved in the company. Everyone who I met over the summer was helpful and really wanted me to feel my best at the company. My manager and team wanted me to succeed and were extremely helpful, which I appreciated.

What I wish was different

Advice

This is a very rigorous internship. The work you are doing during the summer is not busy work and, depending on your team, you will be involved in a lot of team meetings, events, and projects. Be prepared, but it is so rewarding at the end of the day!

Private Wealth Management Intern

May - August 2019 • Houston, TX

What I liked

I loved that we were able to fill ou calendar to our liking and request projects that we were interested in.

What I wish was different

It was a very traditional work environment, where face-time and networking really mattered and go in the way of time-management and the ability to work during business hours.

Advice

Make sure that you are getting to know people from 9-5 and getting your actual work done from 5-9pm, unless it time-sensitive. A written calendar is your best friend.

Tax Intern

May - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I really enjoyed the corporate experience and the opportunities they gave me to learn and take initiative.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more time to progress even further and get more notable roles (such as presenting or something along those lines).

Advice

I would share that to succeed, all you need to do is be ready to work and ask good questions. If you show initiative and look for more work and harder work everyone will notice and not only respect you, but trust you with more responsibility.

Software Engineering Intern

June - August 2019 • Houston, TX

What I liked

I really enjoyed the project I was able to work on- a full-stack web application. And it was nice that the other interns on my team and I got to decide the entire tech-stack for the project and build it from scratch. JPMC also really focuses on interns getting to speak with VPs and other people higher-up in the company.

What I wish was different

Each intern at JPMC has a VERY different experience, and even different expectations from their managers. This often makes it difficult to feel that you got something out of the internship as equally as your peers. Additionally, the company mentions to putting interests and preferences for what to work on as a high priority, but after talking to many other interns, this just doesn't seem like it happened.

Advice

Advocate for yourself. If you aren't getting work, speak up. If you aren't working on something you want to be, speak up. If you're having a bad experience, don't complain and tell others it's great. Talk to your manager and make sure that you get what YOU want from the internship.

Corporate Tax Intern

May 2018 • Columbus, OH

What I liked

When I was first looking for an internship I had went to a recruiter who had advised against large companies such as JPMC stating that little experience would be gained from the work there. However, this was far from the case when working as an intern here. I was involved in a department of 10 locally in the columbus office and over 100 worldwide. I was exposed to many processes and roles. I was able to be actively involved in major processes during the tax return season. The department was close-knit and everyone was very willing to answer any and all questions I had. This role even turned into a full-time employment offer after graduation. JPMC seems to be very devoted to its employees and their career development.

What I wish was different

Nothing. I gained experience in the field and was able to build and develop a career.

Advice

Don't let the idea of a large company and the "small fish big pond" belief create hesitation about applying for an internship here. The company is dedicated to its employees and wants to create, build and maintain these professional relationships. At least in the department I am currently working in, my manager as well as other employees have been willing to answer any and all questions. as well giving meaningful assignments.

Analyst

May - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Good training and structure--never left with nothing to do at work. Also lots of support for female advancement at JP Morgan.

What I wish was different

Better hours. Most days it was difficult to have a second to breathe, let alone maintain my training/sleeping schedule for cross country.

Advice

Build a network of people who you can go to for advice because if something comes up later in the internship, the more friendships and connections you have, the better equipped you will be to deal with those issues or concerns.
