treasury and trade solutions summer analyst

June - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I loved the company. I felt very inclusive and was a great first step into the finance world. As there are so many different departments withing TTS, they gave us the opportunity to rank where we would like to be placed and almost everyone got their first or second choice. This allowed me to really focus where I was most interested so I could get the most out of my summer. Citi also did a great job of setting up training, not just at the start of the internship but through out the whole summer to really help make me feel more comfortable with my role and how the bank as a whole operates. Moreover, they provide every intern with two mentors and multiple networking events in order to get to know as many people as possible in a comfortable environment.

What I wish was different

Although there is very little negative I could say, I do wish there had been more clarity about the return offer and exit interview process at the end. I felt that not having very much information on the process just made me even more nervous and unsure of how exactly I should be preparing.

Advice

The biggest piece of advice would be to network. Although, this is something everyone stresses before you get the internship. It is just as important once you are there. Setting up meetings and coffee chats with other people in the business, at different levels of seniority, really helped me to get a deeper understanding of how the business works and where I fit in. Talking to people and getting to know them also helped me learn more about the day to day of different jobs within the bank more than just their overall role.

Digital Product Management Summer Analyst

June - August 2017 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I worked in Citi's Global Consumer Bank in the Consumer & Digital Experience group as a Digital Product Manager for the summer, using design, technology, and consumer insights to improve, manage, and continue building the product feature I was on. I liked being in this part of the bank – the culture in the consumer bank is very different from the culture on the institutional client side, and I enjoyed being able to work cross-functionally with internal teams like Citi FinTech, product marketing, design, anti-money laundering, and fraud, as well as external agencies for UI/UX design and program & brand strategy.

What I wish was different

Advice

Large corporations like Citi will oftentimes use abbreviations to describe their teams or functions, and it's important – if you become a Summer Analyst in the Global Consumer Bank – to reach out to someone who works at Citi (maybe an alum) to go over the teams with you during assignment placement in the spring so that you can choose a team that will give you the opportunity to build a skill set that you want to leave the summer with. If you're interested in the digital & innovation space, another thing to keep in mind is that things in this department at a large financial service firm tend to move slower than other companies in the tech space – don't get too frustrated if you aren't launching products left and right during your time in the summer. 10 weeks is not enough time to get through even a portion of a product roadmap, so sit tight and learn as much as you can from as many people as possible.

What I liked

I love how much Citi cares for and values their interns. You truly felt a part of the team and that you were an important asset to the company. As an intern, I was able to learn so much and network with a wide range of individuals in all different positions. My 10 weeks were filled with projects, meetings, daily tasks and so much more. I improved skills such as public speaking, networking, and written and verbal communication.

What I wish was different
